The Story Behind A Light Surprises Publishing
Our name comes from a line in the hymn Sometimes a Light Surprises, written by English poet and hymn writer William Cowper in the late 1700s.
Those three words, “a light surprises,” have played in my mind like a quiet refrain throughout life, reminding me that even ordinary days can hold moments of beauty, discovery, hope, and joy.
That idea became the foundation for this publishing house.
My faith shapes the way I see the world and influences the stories I want to tell. But our books are written for any family who values wonder, curiosity, compassion, and the quiet moments that help us better understand ourselves and one another. Rather than offering easy answers or heavy-handed lessons, we hope to create stories that invite children to think, explore, imagine, and discover.
